Uh-Oh: Sessions Signals That More Heads Could Roll At FBI, DOJ

Ahead of the release of a highly anticipated report, Attorney General Sessions made clear where he stands on the administration's handling of former FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. The firing of both Comey and McCabe, said Sessions, was "the right thing to do." If the new report points to other bad actors, said Sessions, more heads could roll.

In an interview with The Hill's new Buck Sexton-hosted TV show "Rising" which will air Thursday night, Sessions discussed the soon-to-be-released report by the DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz and Trump's much-analyzed decision to ax Comey.

"I think it will be a lengthy report and a careful report," said Sessions, The Hill reports. "I think it will help us better fix any problems that we have and reassure the American people that some of the concerns that have been raised are not true. If anyone else shows up in this report to have done something that requires termination we will do so."

Early reports suggest that Horowitz comes down hard on Comey for his defiance of authority in announcing the reopening of the Hillary Clinton investigation just days before the 2016 election against the DOJ's advie and hits other members of the intelligence community over their mishandling of earlier stages of the investigation.

Firing Comey, said Sessions, was "the right thing to do."

"The facts were pretty clear on it," he told Sexton. "He made a big mistake and he testified only a few weeks before that termination that he would do it again [announce reopening the Clinton probe] if he had the opportunity. So we felt like there was a serious breach of discipline within the department if we allowed him to continue."

Sessions' take on the firing of Comey aligns with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's recommendation for his firing, which cited how Comey handled the conclusion of the Clinton case.

As for McCabe, Sessions said it was "the right decision" to fire him over lying to investigators about his alleged leaks to the media.
